Anthropic expands Claude workflows to support small businesses
Anthropic has introduced a new solution aimed at easing the operational burdens of small businesses by integrating its Claude AI into popular software platforms. The new service, branded as "Claude for Small Business", connects directly with tools like QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365, providing 15 pre-designed, ready-to-use workflows and an additional 15 skills tailored for tasks in finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service.
Seamless Integration with Existing Software
The Claude for Small Business package simplifies daily operations by working within tools already familiar to small-business owners. The setup process allows users to toggle on a desktop plugin, connect their existing software, and select a task. From there, Claude drafts plans or creates outputs, which are subject to the owner's review and approval before final execution - whether it’s posting, sending, or completing payments.
According to Anthropic's co-founder and president Daniela Amodei, the product is designed to assist with workloads that often fall outside regular business hours. "People run the business, and Claude helps take the late-night work off their plates", she explained.
To address security concerns, Anthropic emphasized that existing permissions within integrated tools carry over to Claude. For example, employees lacking access to certain QuickBooks or Drive records will not gain access through Claude.
Enhancing Efficiency in Finance and Marketing
Claude's workflows aim to go beyond basic AI chat capabilities by focusing on routine business tasks, particularly in finance and marketing. For financial operations, Claude can reconcile QuickBooks cash positions with incoming PayPal payments, generate 30-day forecasts, rank overdue items, and queue payment reminders for approval. The tool can also flag mismatches during reconciliation, summarize profit-and-loss reports in plain English, and export a finalized close packet to accountants.
Marketing and sales tasks are equally streamlined. Claude integrates with HubSpot to handle lead triage, customer pulse assessments, and campaign attribution, while Canva aids in generating multi-channel content. Additionally, Docusign workflows enable users to send contracts for signature, track their status, and file executed copies automatically.
Several business leaders have already noted the benefits of using Claude in operational settings. Ryan Olson, technology and innovation manager at MidCentral Energy, highlighted its ability to alleviate tedious clerical tasks, allowing teams to focus on more impactful work. "It’s freeing up things that used to be a lot of very tedious clerical work for more value-add tasks", Olson stated. Brian Ludviksen, COO of Purity Coffee, shared a similar sentiment, saying, "Claude showed me problems I didn’t know I had."
Addressing AI Adoption Barriers
Alongside the launch, Anthropic introduced a free online training program called AI Fluency for Small Business, developed in partnership with PayPal. The course features nine lessons and uses videos created by AI fluency researchers and small business owners. Built on Anthropic’s 4D AI Fluency framework, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between small businesses and AI adoption.
This effort addresses a well-documented challenge in the sector. A 2025 survey by Reimagine Main Street, conducted with support from PayPal, found that only 25% of small businesses had fully integrated AI into their daily operations. Meanwhile, 51% were exploring AI but had yet to commit. Among those exploring, the most common barriers were data privacy and security concerns (38%), lack of time or resources (37%), and uncertainty about clear use cases or ROI (34%).
Reaching a Vast Market
Anthropic is targeting a massive potential market with this launch. According to Census Bureau data, there were 5.58 million U.S. employer firms with fewer than 500 employees in 2023, as well as 30.4 million nonemployer establishments. However, AI adoption remains uneven, with a Federal Reserve note indicating that only 18% of U.S. firms had adopted AI by the end of 2025. Adoption rates also varied significantly depending on firm size and industry.
Expanding Access Through Workshops and Partnerships
Anthropic is further supporting its rollout with an in-person training initiative called the Claude SMB Tour, which launched on May 14 in Chicago. The tour includes half-day workshops designed for 100 small-business leaders per stop and will continue with planned events in cities like Tulsa, Dallas, and Baltimore, among others.
Additionally, Anthropic is collaborating with nonprofit organizations to increase accessibility. Projects include a solopreneurship accelerator launched with Workday and LISC and partnerships with groups like Accion Opportunity Fund and Community Reinvestment Fund USA to provide Claude credits and technical assistance to community development financial institutions (CDFIs) developing tools for small-business funding.
By integrating Claude workflows into the platforms small businesses already use, Anthropic is positioning itself as a key player in helping entrepreneurs save time, increase efficiency, and adopt AI technology with greater ease. With training programs, workshops, and outreach efforts, the company aims to make AI more accessible to this critical segment of the economy.
